Message from the Club Commodore"Charting the Course" This year the sailing club began a new journey. Rechristened as NAS Jax Sail Club, with a new hand on the helm and a sound crew to man the sheets, we launched an independent club with the same destination in mind. Yet, as with any refit, there needs to be a shakedown cruise to ensure everything is shipshape and functioning properly. This crew is putting forth a yeoman’s effort as they work through new processes that independence requires. Even as we chart this new course, we are working to give club members several options to be on the water exercising the skills learned and building both experiences and friendships along the way. Planning and executing these events takes people and resources and to paraphrase a saying “the more hands haulin’ on the yard, the easier to raise the sail”. Yes, I totally made that up! Nonetheless, if you have some spare time and would like to become part of the working crew, I encourage you to reach out to our Promotion & Outreach Officer, Skipper Eric Wester. Whether it’s for a single event or throughout the year, we can always use another set of hands. I’ll close this with a quote from one of my favorite naval historical figures: "It seems to be a law of nature, inflexible and inexorable, that those who will not risk cannot win." - John Paul Jones.
